Operation Smile -
Giving kids a reason to smile

By Sherry Kahn, MPH

Continued Growth
In 2001, Operation Smile will be going to India for the first time. Telemedicine transmission has been established in a few countries in Central America and similar efforts are currently underway in Asia. “This will allow us to train more local medical professionals,” explains Magee.

Magee personally spends 150 days each year on missions. “When you see the smiles of the children and parents, you know they now have hope and some sense of a future. Instead of being outcasts, these children can become active participants in their communities,” he says. “But it still breaks my heart to have to turn away so many.”
