It is not just in Montreal that problems in plastic surgery are occuring. Last month a Flordia State health officials restricted a plastic surgeon's license following the death of a 38 year old woman who had breast augmentation without having an anesthesiologist on duty.
Meanwhile, in London, a damning report outlined why many private plastic surgery clinics in London can be unsafe and urged potential patients to practice caution.
In Florida, an order by the Health Department said Dr. Kurt Dangl committed gross malpractice and failed to adequately administer, monitor and record anesthesia given to Julie Rubenzer during breast augmentation surgery last September.
Rubenzer, 38, never regained consciousness after the procedure and she died there December 26.
Incompetence seemed to be the running theme, as the order said that the victim received a "dazzling array of anesthetic agents given by singularly unqualified individuals" during the surgery, and that there was no anesthesiologist on duty.
The order said Rubenzer went into respiratory failure, which Dangl failed to treat, causing her to go into cardiac arrest. Then, it said, he waited too long to administer cardiac compression.
