History of Botox
Botox® is a strong toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria, and as such is carefully monitored by the FDA. Few people know that it is a historically deadly poison that was first purified and used for medical use in 1973 to treat cross-eyed treat children. Subsequently, it was developed commercially by Allergan Pharmaceuticals and approved by the FDA for medical use to treat uncontrollable muscle spasms or cramping. As a result of the recent headache findings of the plastic surgeons, Botox® is being researched even more by various medical institutions and researchers.
In 1987, Canadian plastic surgeon Dr. Alastair Carruthers first used Botox® cosmetically to erase the frown lines from the forehead of his medical assistant. About the same time, New York neurologist Dr. Mitchell Brin, noticed that it can be beneficial in reducing wrinkles.
