First Greta Van Susteren, America's favorite lawyer, shocks the media world by jumping ship from CNN to Fox television. Then the second shock wave came as she transformed into a fox herself. The 47-year-old lawyer, who rose to fame during the OJ Simpson trial, showed off her astonishing new "look" - the result of an eyelift. In doing so, Van Susteren has become a vocal supporter of cosmetic surgery, and an advocate for women to do their research before going under the knife.
The new and improved Susteren wowed not only the viewers but also her colleagues with her lifted eyes, and youthful and refreshed look. A chorus of compliments, coming from the likes of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Geraldo Rivera, greeted her. Prior to her own one hour show, "On the Record", Van Susteren a guest on the Fox News Channel program, "The Publicity Factor", talked openly, in between discussions of her support for Bill Clinton, about her surgery, and acknowledged that it has created a publicity buzz.
Although the jury is out on who decided on the new Bette Davis eyes for Ms. Van Susteren (some reports suggested that Fox forced her to remove the bags under her eyes, hey this is TV after all) the buzz is that Fox is intending on capturing some more media out of it: Fox News Channel chief Roger Ailes said last week that he is now considering a promotion campaign that will plug the new and presumably sexier Van Susteren as a dig at CNN, which hastily pulled an ad that touted a "sexy" Paula Zahn (accompanied by the sound of a zipper) following the uproar it created.
