December 11, 2001 --
If being the latest 'it' girl and living an overall charmed life isn't enough, Catherine Zeta-Jones has just been voted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) as the "ideal face of femininity" for 2001. Winner in the male category was Australian stud Mel Gibson.
According to the Academy, there is a "real mathematical equation for measuring a person's attractiveness." But if all that is algebra to you, other reasons the society gave her top billing was because her "short delicate jaw with small chin and nose, lavish lips, well developed cheek bones and prominent eyes."
Zeta-Jones drew first-prize nods for her nose as well, with second place going to Nicole Kidman, with a three way tie for third split between Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Penelope Cruz (all in all an incestous group, since Cruz and Kidman had relationships with Tom Cruise, while Aniston and Paltrow did the same with Brad Pitt. Apparently, however, best arm appendage was not part of the voting consideration.)
